Ministers apprise NA of MFN, Railways

The National Assembly was informed on Wednesday that Pakistan has not yet granted Most Favoured Nation status to India for trade.

Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abbas Khan Afridi told the House during question hour that Pakistan maintains a Negative List of items for trade with India.

He said that the elimination of the Negative List after the approval of the Cabinet will culminate into grant of MFC status to India. He said that India has already granted MFN status to Pakistan in 1996.

To a question‚ Minister for Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour told the House that out of 281 non-functional Diesel Electric Locomotives‚ 250 are being repaired and rehabilitated under different repair plans and projects with the approximate cost of 17 billion 213 million rupees.

He said that projects are expected to be completed within next 3 years subject to availability of funds.
