The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday invited applications from political parties that have complied with the provisions of the Political Parties Order, 2002 for allocation of election symbols.
The applications, signed by respective party leaders, should reach the Election Commission Secretariat Islamabad, on or before March 15.
The political parties were advised to file applications for allocation of symbols according to requirements of Article 5 of the Allocation of Symbols Order, 2002.
ECP said that the applications should contain information about list of symbols applied for in order of preference; symbol or symbols if any was allocated to the political party during the previous general elections; address of the head office of the political party; the name of its president, secretary general and other office-bearers of the central executive committee; numerical strength of its members and copy of election manifesto and copy of the constitution of the political party should be attached.
The parties were also asked to state whether the party was represented by a member or members in the National Assembly or a provincial assembly in the past, if so, the name and other particulars of such members; whether the political party had conducted the intra-party elections as required under Article 12 of the Political Parties Order, 2002 and whether the political party had submitted its due consolidated statements of accounts audited by chartered accountants as required under Article 13 of the Political Parties Order, 2002.
The ECP made it clear that incomplete applications or requests through fax would not be entertained. The applications received prior to March 5 would not be considered.
