Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim on Monday directed radio broadcasters to play a pivotal role in educating voters on democracy and the election process before the upcoming general elections.
Talking to Director General Radio Pakistan Murtaza Solangi who called on him in Karachi, Chief Election Commission highlighted the need of voter education programs before elections and directed all radio stations to provide detailed information to voters about the candidates and what they stand for.
The CEC said that he would soon schedule a meeting in Islamabad to discuss strategies to make good use of the public and private radio stations of the country for the upcoming elections.
Murtaza Solangi assured the Chief Election Commissioner that as a public broadcaster with the largest network in the country‚ Radio Pakistan will play a leading role to give equal opportunity to all contestants in the upcoming elections.
The head of Radio Pakistan assured the Election Commission that his organization will work with over a 100 private radio stations during elections as it worked with them during Malakand Swat operations and the floods of 2010 and 2011
