A robber was killed on Saturday in an alleged police encounter within the jurisdiction of Pirwadhai police station.
According to details, Nisar Iqbal, son of Muhammad Altaf, along with his friend Haroon Rasheed was going to his house on a motorcycle at around 1200 on Friday when they were stopped near Kamran Bakery on Khaiban-e-Sir-Syed by five robbers who were looting citizens.
The robbers took Rs 8000 and two mobile phones and fled. Nisar Iqbal and his friend chased the robbers on their motorcycle and also informed the Muhafiz squad about the robbers.
Muhafiz squad and Nisar Iqbal were near Muhammadi Chowk when the robbers opened fire on the police.
In retaliation, police also opened fire at the robbers.
One of the robbers got injured and fell down while his accomplices managed to escape from the scene.
The injured dacoit was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
He was later identified as Arshad alias Diao, son of Muhammad Sharif, resident of Hazara Colony. He was proclaimed offender and was wanted by the police in several cases.
He had been booked in eight cases at Gunjmandi police station.
According to a police spokesman, raids were being conducted arrest the other four.
