France-based the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) on Friday condemned the killing of Malik Mumtaz Khan, a senior journalist based in Miranshah. “We offer our condolences to Khan’s family and friends and we urge the Pakistani authorities to quickly take stock of the dangers that journalists incur just by doing their job in the Tribal Areas,” RSF said in a statement. “The authorities must deploy effective resources in order not only to bring those responsible for this appalling murder to justice, but also to prevent any recurrence of this kind of violence,” RSF added. A journalist for the last 15 years, Khan had worked for the television news channel Geo News and the Jang newspaper group.
