Parliament to be afforded due respect: Kaira

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Saturday said the Parliament should be given full respect and dignity for it is the mother of all institutions.

Talking to media personnel at the residence of Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Syed Asif Hashmi, Kaira said all institutions including the judiciary, armed forces, bureaucracy and administration followed the Parliament as it was the creator of the constitution.

Responding to a question about a comment of a judge published in a local newspapers, Kaira requested the courts to accord due respect to the Parliament while passing remarks.

He said individuals could be at fault but Parliament, as an institution, should be afforded due respect.

Kaira said it was the sole prerogative of the Parliament to amend the constitution, form new provinces and define and give rights to people.

Kaira termed the alliance of opposition parties led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as Taliban’s Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI). He said it appeared as if supporters of extremists were joining hands, adding that the masses would be a better judge on who supported terrorism and who fought against the menace.

He said the formation of this alliance had revealed the difference between sympathisers of militants and those who were fighting against terrorism.

“In the past, IJI was formed by agencies and now Taliban are behind this alliance,” he said.
