The Special Anti-terrorism Court Rawalpindi on Saturday dismissed former president Pervez Musharraf’s wife Sehba’s petition for defreezing of their assets.
In 2011, during a trial of the Benazir Bhutto murder case, the court declared Musharraf a proclaimed offender and his bank accounts were frozen and property taken over. Sehba had filed an application against the court’s order.
Sehba said since her husband gifted her farmhouse in Islamabad, the court illegally ordered its confiscation. She also mentioned in her application that the money in their bank accounts were reserved for the welfare of the general population, hence they could be frozen.
Judge Chaudhry Habibur Rehman disposed of the application.
After Sehba’s lawyer Ilyas Siddiqui failed to present record of proof of her income deposited in the couple’s joint bank accounts, the court declared its previous decision to seize the former ruler’s assets as rightful.
