Grabbing the vacant land allotted to different government departments in the federal capital, around 500 Christian families have set up tents in Sector H-9, forming a katchi abadi, with the alleged backing of MNA Akram Masih Gill.
A shop had also been erected in the settlement to facilitate land grabbers, while officials of Capital Development Authority (CDA) were playing the role of silent spectators.
The dwellers of tents said they were not living there for free. They said they were keeping the officials of CDA “happy”, that is why they were not conducting any operation against the settlement.
When contacted, officials of the district administration said that the CDA was responsible for conducting operations against the land grabbers.
When contacted, MNA Akram Masih Gill said only 200 families were allowed to live in the colony in Sector H-9 on a temporary basis but the number of the families had increased to 1,000 as people from different parts of the country had started shifting here. He said he had discussed the matter with the prime minister but the matter could not be resolved.
