From the band’s name to the single’s title, Thirty Seconds to Mars’ mission to send a song into space makes perfect sense. The group, fronted by Jared Leto, is sending along the first copy of their new single ‘Up in the Air’ with a SpaceX rocket. The launch is scheduled to happen at 10:10 a.m. ET on Friday, with the rocket traveling from Cape Canaveral, Florida, to dock at the International Space Station. ‘Up in the Air’, the first single from Thirty Seconds to Mars’ upcoming album, will be nestled in a Dragon cargo capsule that’ll include more than 1,200 pounds of scientific experiments and equipment. Fans can watch the launch on NASA’s website. Thirty Seconds to Mars will then head down to NASA mission control in Houston to host a live Q&A on their own website with astronaut Tom Marshburn, who’s aboard the International Space Station. The band will play ‘Up in the Air’ for those listening during the March 18 talk, and will release it via digital retailers the following day.
