Pakistan’s Legends Golf Tour teams from Lahore and Karachi landed in Dubai yesterday for participation in an international golf competition which will be contested over three days on Ryder Cup format basis.
The golf competition involving Lahore, Karachi and Dubai teams comprising of 24 golfers in each team will be played on Earth and Fire golf courses at Jumeirah Golf Estates, with the final round to be concluded on 3rd March.
Primarily an amateur golf league, the Tour is aimed at creating a deep sense of camaraderie among Pakistani players, who share the same passion by providing them with a platform which has an international touch and a golf course that is comparable with the best in the world.
The three-day event, known as the Greenshield Cup, will see teams from Lahore, Karachi and Dubai contest for honours based on the Ryder Cup format of foursomes and singles over three days.
Endorsed by Greenshield Insurance and Habib Bank Limited, the triangular tournament would also help create a window of opportunity for generating funds for talented Pakistan professional golf players who can perform admirably on international circuit, but for want of finances, they can hardly move out of their own country.
Already the top Pakistani professionals demonstrated a glimpse of their abundance of talent on the MENA Golf Tour last year and got noticed by the international golfing community. Muhammed Munir the number two ranked professional of Pakistan made an impact and so did young Shafiq Masih by winning one event each on the tour’s schedule which included top-class players from all the over the world.
With the Legends Tour expanding its network internationally, it will provide participants a chance to international exposure and excellent playing conditions.
Imran Habib, Adil Haji & Haroon Arshad are the spirit behind this effort and stated that they are commited to ensuring huge opportunities to golfers and their development as players of significance.
