Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman said on Friday that talks on peace in Afghanistan should be held in isolation from international agenda.

He was talking to reporters in the parliament with reference to his meeting with the US ambassador to Pakistan.

“On Afghanistan issue, the US ambassador told me that his country wanted to pull out from Afghanistan. The US wants to hand over Afghanistan to Afghan army,” Fazl said. “The ambassador said the US wanted that the situation in Afghanistan to remain peaceful. But I said the USSR had also left Afghanistan”, Fazl added.

He went on to say that the issue of drone attacks in the tribal areas was not internal matter of Pakistan, but an international issue.

“The US ambassador asked me what should be done for improving Pakistan’s economy, and I told him that the law and order situation and energy crisis were the major impediments on the way to economic development. If our own resources are utilised, then our national economy will grow stronger,” the JUI-F chief said.

“Afghanistan is and will remain our neighbour. We cannot keep it isolated from the peace process. The US ambassador said that his country wanted to take Pakistan along, and keep it side by side in the peace process. The US thinks peace process cannot complete without Pakistan,” Fazl added.
