The district court on Friday extended the physical remand of Abrar Ahmed and his female accomplice, Zara Mehak, for their involvement in the rape and murder of a 11–year-old girl, Shehzadi Bibi. However, the court ordered the police to release Mehak’s father and brother.

Islamabad police on Friday produced the accused before the court and sought extension of their physical remand. Police pleaded that as the couple had confessed to raping five girls and killing two, further interrogation was necessary. At this, Judicial Magistrate Ayesha Shahbir extended the physical remand of the accused for three more days.

However, police also pleaded the court to grant judicial remand of Mehak’s brother Shan Saboor, and father Qaisar Ali which the court rejected, and ordered their release.

Meanwhile, Additional Session Judge East Zaiba Chaudhry also accepted the bail plea of Mehak’s mother Shubnan Rubina.

Mehak’s father, mother and brother were booked on charges of kidnapping 11-year old Shehzadi Bibi. However, police could not establish their involvement in the rape and murder of Shehzadi Bibi.

Shehzadi Bibi went missing from Margalla Valley Baharakau on February 13 when she went for tuition to Zara Mehak’s (a BS Mass Communications student at NUML) house at around 1100 hours.

Shehzadi’s father filed an complaint against Zara Mehak, and the police registered a case against her under section 364-A at Bhara Kau police station. During investigation, the accused couple confessed to raping and killing of Swera, who was a daughter of a serving SP of Islamabad police. At this, police registered another FIR against the couple.

Shehzadi Bibi was recovered from a dry gutter in 1-9/1 on February 16. Shehzadi’s father identified her daughter and section 302 and 201 PPC were added to the First Information Report already registered at Bharakau Kau police station.

Investigations revealed that Zara Mehak was in contact with her boyfriend Ibrar, an MBA degree holder from NUML and an HR Manager in Ittehad Steel Mills through a secret number phone hidden at her house. Ibrar lived at I-9/1 and came to Zara Mehak’s house on February 13 at 1130.

During initial investigations, Zara Mehak denied everything, but later she admitted that she along with Ibrar had gagged and strangled the girl. Ibrar carried the unconscious girl to 1-9/1 and raped her before burning her and throwing her in a dry gutter.
