Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad on Thursday arrived back home from Dubai after the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain directed him to withdraw his resignation.

Talking to reporters at Karachi airport, Ebad said he had decided to quit his office as he was not able to tackle the situation between the MQM and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

“I told the president regarding my decision and left for Dubai. Zardari sent Interior Minister Rehman Malik there who convinced me that my presence in the city was necessary for maintaining peace,” he said.

He added that Altaf Hussain contacted him on telephone on Wednesday evening and discussed the current situation and asked him to return to his post and fully use skills to maintain peace in the province.

“I want blessings of Altaf Hussain and President Zardari to fully perform my duties,” Ebad said.
