The Rawalpindi Arts Council on Thursday organised a concert of local folk and Cuban jazz singers in collaboration with the embassy of the Republic of Cuba and The Diplomatic Insight.

Cuban Ambassador Jesus Zenen Buergo Concepcion was the chief guest at the event, while Naheed Manzoor and RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed graced the event as special guests.

Singers from both countries enthralled the huge gathering present at the auditorium of the council. Local folk singers, Qurban Niazi, Saadia Batool, Rukhsana Khan and Muhammad Arshad mesmerised the audience.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Jesus Zenen Buergo Concepcion said the objective of holding this event was to introduce Cuban music to the public of Pakistan. He said the concert would strengthen people-to-people contact between Cuban and Pakistan.

He said he was pleased to see the huge gathering.

“This shows that the people of this region have great interest in the art and culture of other countries,” he added.

Naheed Manzoor said, “Besides promoting local art and culture, Rawalpindi Art Council also takes initiatives to introduce art and culture of foreign countries to the people of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Music is a universal language; therefore, the music show will bring people belonging to different cultures closer”.

Diplomatic Insight Chief Editor said that Diplomatic Insight’s Asif Noor was playing his role as a bridge among institutions by conducting such kinds of events. RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed thanked the Cuban ambassador and the audience and said the council would extend its cooperation to other countries for the promoting of cultural activities and to hold such shows in the future.
