Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Thursday condemned the murder of Malik Mumtaz, a journalist based in Miranshah by unknown assailants.

According to details, the HRCP issued a statement saying that the killing of Malik Mumtaz was a continuation of increasing violence against journalists as he was the fifth journalist killed in the first two months of 2013.

The HRCP revealed that at least 10 journalists were killed in 2012 while the response of both the federal and provincial governments had been “completely inadequate” as journalists continued to be attacked with impunity.

The HRCP called upon the government to bring the culprits to justice and take all necessary measures for safety of journalists.
