The Sindh Assembly on Wednesday gave approval to the resolution regarding the establishment of a university in Hyderabad under public-private partnership, Express News reported.
The joint resolution was moved by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Syed Waseem Hussain and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MPA Farheen Mughal.
A bill moved by the MQM to build a private university was turned downed by the government by saying that it had been referred to education, law and finance departments for approval.
Earlier, Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Pir Mazharul Haq had strongly opposed the establishment of universities in Hyderabad. As a result, he was heavily criticised by the MQM for his outrageous stance. However, the education minister had claimed that his comment was taken out of context and was blown out of proportion.
The protesting party was supposed to move the university bill in the provincial assembly on Monday, but the assembly was adjourned only after 90 seconds of proceedings.
