A review petition for delimiting the electoral boundaries of Karachi’s constituencies, filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), was rejected by the Supreme Court (SC), on Wednesday.

An SC bench, led by Justice Anwer Zaheer Jamali, continued the hearing of the Karachi law and order suo motu implementation case at the apex court’s Karachi registry.

Justice Khilji Arif Hussain said, commenting on the hearing, that it is the ECP’s job to ensure transparent elections.

The ECP Secretary and the Sindh Chief Secretary concur with the implementation of the court’s directives. The show-cause notice issued to Sindh Inspector General Police (IGP) Fayyaz Leghari was withdrawn by the SC upon his written apology to the court.

The IGP had said in his reply that all police officers involved in illegal activities would be suspended and action would be taken against them.
