National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials on Wednesday raided the house of the detained Central Police Office Budget Officer Javed Khan and seized Rs 41.2 million cash along with weapons of various bores.
According to official sources, there is a probability that some serving and retired police officers will be scrutinised for their involvement in the weapons purchase scam after what appears to be vital information, which the arrested official has revealed during investigation.
The NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa media cell spokesman Col Waheedullah said NAB SP Inayat Khan along with local police and other officers raided Javed Khan’s house and recovered Rs 41.2 million cash, adding that they “also found a Kalashnikov and some pistols during the raid.”
He said the arrested officer and the contractor, Arshad Majeed, had revealed critical information during interrogation including names of many other serving and retired police officers, who will also be included in the interrogation. Javed Khan and Majeed were arrested by NAB last week for alleged misappropriation in a seven billion rupees weapons purchase deal.
“I would say the information extracted from the accused has revealed that both serving and some retired police officers also have a role in the weapons purchase scam which has caused a huge loss to the national exchequer. At this stage we are probing further, before making any arrests,” Waheedullah said.
“I cannot name officers at this stage but it is likely we will be making more arrests soon, and there are names of some high ranking officers as well but we have to be absolutely certain that these officers were involved before taking them to task,” he said, replying to a query.
