The Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought reply from the parties concerned on petition seeking disqualification of Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain from contesting Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and (PMDC) elections.

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of LHC took up the case for hearing on Wednesday.

Counsel for YDA while giving arguments before the court said Election Board of PMDC had introduced amendments in election laws to support their favorites while it was feared that candidates who met the merit would be barred from participating in the elections due to these amendments.

He told the court that Dr Asim Hussain on one hand was holding post of vice chairman of PMDC and on the other hand he was taking part in the elections again.

He prayed the court to declare Dr Asim Hussain disqualified for contesting PMDC election because he was holding a political office. He also requested the court to issue orders to PMDC election board to enact election laws as per set procedure.

The court issued notice to the parties concerned on this petition and sought reply from them within a week.
