National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza on Wednesday proposed to start last three sessions of the House with the National Anthem.
Commenting briefly on performance of the House, the Speaker said; “ because the Assembly is going to be dissolved early next month,I propose to start last three to four sessions with National Anthem. The elected representatives will once again go to masses for votes and I would like they take along pleasant memories from this House”.
She said that the upcoming general elections will be free and fair and nobody should cast doubts on credibility of the polls. The Speaker appreciated the House for record legislation during its tenure as she praised unanimity of thought that prevailed most of the time during legislation and majority of bills were passed unanimously.
She said “although the government enjoyed majority and could have done legislation by defeating opposition through vote, but, it preferred to evolve consensus on majority of bills”.
Fehmida also appreciated the role of the opposition in legislation and other House business and said; “what the House has done during last five years is a big achievement and I congratulate whole the House for completing five years.
