I can now read and write in Hindi: Nargis Fakhri

Nargis Fakri faded out of people’s memories as quickly after the release of Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar (2011) as she rose to popularity prior to it. Lambasted by critics and masses alike for her tepid performance opposite Ranbir Kapoor, the actors admits that her career did slump after her grand debut. “I know I have taken some time off but I think it’s cool. I think one shouldn’t rush; it’s better to take it slow and easy as well choose wisely,” says Nargis. Nargis who is wrapping up her second film — Shoojit Sircar’s Madras Cafe — opposite John Abraham, adds that she is now working hard to prove herself as a better actor. “I am really trying to give my best shot to the characters I am choosing to play. I can now read and write in Hindi, which I think is a great achievement. So I am now literate in Hindi and I am working hard to improve my language skills. It takes time,” says the actor, who has managed to bag quite a few endorsements of late. Born to a Czech father and Pakistani mother, Nargis reveals that her role in Madras Café is intense. “I am playing an international journalist. This is a stronger role than my previous one. You are definitely going to see me doing something different this time,” she says. The actor, who is also one of the faces of Mumbai Heroes, one of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) teams, believes that this association has helped her in professional networking. “I get to meet many actors and directors at every event. It is a great platform for professional work too,” she says.
