Over 8,000 tubewell consumers owe Rs 1.33 billion to Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) in Multan officials said on Tuesday.
A senior official of Mepco told sources that a total of 8,195 tube well consumers had been listed as defaulters in the Multan but they failed to pay the Rs 1.33 billion default amount.
Regarding recovery of dues, he said that “recovery is a tough job given the reported violent behavior of the consumers against the Mepco staff. Mepco staff who approach the consumers for recovery do not get a candid response and FIR have been registered against dozens of MEPCO consumers who physically attacked the MEPCO staff”.
Stop their electricity and they will come themselves to pay their bills plus interest and penalty.
