The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the notification of the final list of electoral symbols for the upcoming general elections.

According to the notification, the number of political parties is 227 whereas that of electoral signs is 193, therefore the ECP needs more electoral symbols.

Sources are of the view that the signs denoting dog, donkey, and lota have been eliminated from the list of electoral signs.

They said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf applied for the sign of a cricket bat.

Earlier, the ECP allotted the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F the sign of a closed book instead of an open book on the ground that the political party had tried to secure more votes, as the sign denoted Holy Quran.
