Suspend 423 corrupt cops, SC orders IGP

The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a show-cause notice to the inspector general of police (IGP) Sindh and ordered the suspension of 423 personnel of police involved in illegal activities.
A larger bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Anwer Zaheer Jamali on Tuesday resumed the hearing of case pertaining to implementation of the court’s earlier order over the Karachi law and order at the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry.
During the hearing, the court expressed its dissatisfaction and issued a show-cause notice to Sindh Police IG Fayyaz Leghari.
In its remarks, the court inquired as to why 430 policemen involved in illegal activities were not suspended and still posted for duties.
The court further remarked that the corrupt policemen were not only performing their duties but also posted at sensitive locations.
The court ordered the suspension of 423 police personnel suspected to be of involvement in illegal activities and instructed Sindh’s IGP to submit a reply within a day and adjourned hearing of the case until Wednesday (today).
