Interior Minister Rehman Malik has appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan to summon Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and enquire why he did not initiate any action against the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ).
Addressing a ceremony organised by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the interior minister claimed that the Punjab government had signed a deal with the banned outfit. He further alleged that Shahbaz Sharif had asked the Taliban to not attack Punjab, because “he has the same agenda as the Taliban”.
“The federal government has not issued any arms licenses to LJ’s Malik Ishaq, and if anyone has any reservations, they can take this matter to the court,” he said, adding that if the governments of Sind and Balochistan had issued arms licenses to Ishaq, the federal government could not be blamed.
He said that if the Punjab government had taken timely action against the LJ, terrorist attacks in Quetta and Karachi could have been avoided.
He said the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan was supporting the LJ, and they both had joined hands against innocent people.
