Lt Gen (r) Shahid Aziz has expressed a conditional willingness to undergo self-trail, along with other conniving associates, on charges of the October 12, 1999, coup against a constitutional government.
Talking during an interview to a private TV channel, one of the closest associates of former military dictator Pervez Musharraf agreed to undergo trial according to article 6 of the constitution, stressing equal persecution of other tyrants whose actions and betrayals damaged the federation and constitution.
He defended his blatant violation of the constitution under the premise that it was a ‘stinking constitution’ of a stinking system, under whose cover the rulers committed and encouraged massive genocide.
He said a real constitution was one prepared by the masses and expressed deep regret for conniving with somebody he should have rather eschewed; since “that very person (Musharraf) himself became a part of that (stinking) system”.
On the occasion, he also disclosed that Gen Ahsaan used to recommend names for possible ministers and interviews, and while replying to a question, also disclosed that during the coup it was decided to give the country “a brand new, conducive welfare-oriented constitution,” but “we failed”, he regretted.
