Business activities remained closed in Hyderabad, the second largest city of Sindh, because of an unannounced strike and firing in different areas on Sunday.
Armed bike-riders resorted to aerial firing in Latifabad, Sadar, Haider Chowk and other busy market places creating panic among citizens who closed all kinds of business activities.
Busy markets of Latifabad, Reshamgali, Shahibazar, Gari Khata, Tower Market and Pakka Qila remained closed on Sunday due to an announced strike in the city with low traffic on roads.
Police said two people were injured in the firing at Hyderabad’s Auto Bhan Road.
Tension gripped Karachi and Hyderabad after the Muttahida Quami Movement announced protest against a statement of Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq about a public sector university in Hyderabad.
Pir Mazharul said on Saturday that he deliberately did not allow the setting up of a university in Hyderabad and served as a ‘bulwark’ against the project.
His statement came in the wake of MQM’s separation from the coalition government and subsequent repealing of Sindh Peoples Local Government Ordinance (SPLGO).
