Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Haji Adeel said on Sunday that his party was ready to forgive Taliban for the sake of restoring peace.

Talking to reporters, the senior ANP leader urged the Taliban and the military to announce ceasefire and hold dialogue, which he said “seems to be the only way to resolve the issue”.

He said the Taliban had sought the guarantee of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Munawar Hassan as precondition to hold talks, while asking who would provide the guarantee that the Taliban would follow the agreement reached after consultation.

To a question regarding the formation of new provinces, the ANP leader said that he had objection over paragraph 1 of the bill tabled for the creation of Bahawalpur-Southern Punjab province. The paragraph says that area of any province can be increased or decreased in accordance with the need, he said, adding that the clause could lead to new debate and would give rise to hatred among provinces.

Adeel said that if the said paragraph was implemented, then it was possible that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) would separate Karachi and Hyderabad in Sind province.
