Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, in his message on the Anti-Dengue Day today (Sunday), has said that war against dengue has not completely finished yet and the struggle will continue till its complete eradication.

He said nobody should be not afraid of dengue instead effort should be made to fight it. He said February 24 was being observed as Anti-Dengue Day with determination that all segments of the society would again step forward against dengue virus and ensure protection of human lives by utilising all possible resources.

The CM said that nations chalk their future by learning form their past, adding that the Punjab government had saved thousands of lives by taking timely steps last year. He said all segments of the society would have to play their effective role against dengue virus. He said social habits would have to be changed to ensure prevention against dengue, while lethargy and careless attitude towards protection of human lives could prove fatal. He said a vigorous campaign, based on preventive measures against dengue, was being launched while it was the need of the hour that elected representatives and government machinery should further strengthen anti-dengue campaign with a missionary zeal, which could only be ensured by active participation of the common man. The CM said the government machinery had a leading role to play in anti-dengue campaign, while government officers should participate in it with a passion to serve the people. He said seminars, walks and workshops had been arranged throughout Punjab, including Lahore, to raise awareness regarding anti-dengue steps. He said rate of dengue victims had been greatly reduced due to effective steps of the government and preventive measures taken by the people. He said anti-dengue campaign would continue with a missionary and patriotic zeal during the current year as well. The CM appealed to all segments of the society to join hands to combat dengue virus and vigorously support the governmental steps taken in this regard.
