Too little, too late

Colonel (r) Ateeq Zaman, who had filed an FIR against a traffic warden, on Friday said that incident involving the traffic warden and his wife was a misunderstanding, Pakistan Today has learnt.

According to details, the retired colonel was traveling in the car with his wife on Thursday even, when at Girja Chowk his wife had to step out of the vehicle. As she stepped out, her bag got caught in the handle of a passing motorbike, dragging the bag with it. The bike was being driven by a traffic warden, Farhan Bashir, who was off duty. In the ensuing commotion, the traffic warden lost his balance on the bike and fell off. Crowds gathered at the scene and Colonel Zaman raised alarm under the impression that Bashir had tried to steal his wife’s bag.

Bashir was then taken to the police station where, despite his repeated protests and explanations, an FIR was lodged against him.

However, Colonel Zaman now claims that when he got home after the incident, his wife apprised him of what had happened and after careful consideration, he had come to the conclusion that it was just a misunderstanding.

Talking to Pakistan Today, he said that he was certain that the warden was innocent of any wrong doing but was helpless since the FIR had been lodged already. He said that the matter could now only be resolved through the courts.
