As spring approaches, the police has intensified its activities to round up kite-flying enthusiasts in various parts of the province.

According to details, the police claimed to have arrested over 1,000 people in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and other cities since the provincial government imposed Section 144, banning the kite-flying festival.

In many areas, the police seized thousands of kites and metallic twines and apprehended kite vendors.

Recently, the skies have been littered with kites as citizens prepare to welcome the much-awaited Basant season. Traditionally, the kite-flying festival is accompanied by decorations and special food fairs.

However, Basant activities had been banned by the government a few years ago following an increasing number of deaths caused by metallic strings being used to fly the kites.
