Following continuous rain in the city, numerous puddles were seen on Jehlum Road and Rashid Minhas Road on Friday due to poor drainage system and slackness of the concerned officials.
Rashid Minhas Road had been dug to lay pipelines and the rainwater accumulated in the trenches, creating trouble for the residents.
Similarly, roads and streets in various markets and bazaars of Rawalpindi Cantonment area turned into muddy puddles because of poor the drainage system.
Expressing annoyance over the situation, residents of the area said that it was impossible to go to the bazaars and markets after rain as the roads and streets became very muddy. They said the situation created trouble for pedestrians, who could not reach their destination without getting their cloths ruined.
Meanwhile, residents of Tench Bhata, People’s Colony and Chungi No 22 also complained about the failure of drainage system in their respective areas. They said that sewerage lines in the areas were blocked with garbage, dirt and polythene therefore rainwater flowed on roads and streets, hindering the movements of the citizens.
Residents demanded the cantonment board officials to improve the drainage system in the area.
