National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is investigating reports of Rs.7 billion corruption in the purchase of arms and vehicles for the police department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to the media reports, the inquiry body has concluded its initial report after arresting budget officer Javed Khan and a contractor of the police department, Arshad Majeed, who were allegedly involved in the Rs.7 billion deal.

Officials said bigwigs of the police department, including a former IG Police, were found involved in the misappropriation of billions of rupees.

According to NAB, the police department during 2009 and 2010 purchased bulletproof jackets, weapons, vehicles and some equipment allegedly through advance payment to a company without assessing quality of the provided items.
