GB, Malakand cut off as roads blocked by snowfall

Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Malakand were cut off from rest of the country after link roads were blocked due to heavy snowfall on Friday.

Winter is back again, as different cities of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Khyber Agency received rains. A woman died and three others were injured as the roof of a house caved in due to rains in the Akakhel area of Bara.
Snowfall at Hunza, Nagar, Diamer and Skardu continued unabated, while the communication system has been badly hit by heavy snowfall in Astor. Winter revisited Chilas city after heavy rains.

Upper areas of Malakand Division were hit by rains and snowfall, while Swat Road and Alpuri Puran Road in Shangla have been closed for traffic.

In Punjab, the cold weather is back again as Gujrat, Gujranwala, Chakwal, Rawalpindi and Islamabad received heavy downpour on Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast widespread rain/thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills in Balochistan, upper Sindh, Punjab, Islamabad, KP, Kashmir and GB during the next 24 hours. Isolated rainfall is also expected in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Peshawar and Kohat Division on Saturday (today).

According to the synoptic situation, a fresh westerly wave is affecting most parts of the country and likely to persist during next two days.

Widespread rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected in northeast Punjab, including Islamabad, while at scattered places in other parts of the province during next 24 hours.

In KP, rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected at scattered places of the province during next 24 hours.

Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of Sindh. However, rain is expected at scattered places of upper Sindh during next 24 hours.

Mostly cloudy weather expected with chances of rain at scattered places of Northeast Balochistan during next 24 hours.
Widespread rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected in Kashmir and GB during next 24 hours.
The lowest minimum temperatures recorded during the last 24 hours were Parachinar -6C, Astore -4C, Skardu, Gupis and Kalam -3C and Hunza -2C.
