Dispose off Shahzeb case within a week: CJ to ATC

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday ordered anti-terrorism court (ATC) to decide the Shahzeb murder case within 7 days.

According to a private television channel, a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of the case and ordered anti-terrorism court to hear the case on daily basis for deciding it within seven days.

The court also sought written reply from DG FIA within 3 days and issued a short order in Shahzeb murder case.

The CJP expressed his displeasure over the FIA officials for not presenting footage of Shahrukh Jatoi, the central accused in the case, when he fled from the country.

“What action was taken against officials showing negligence? Did he hoodwink FIA into fleeing from Pakistan,” the CJP observed.

He said that PIA’s protocol officers were also found involved in Shahrukh’s escape, saying the FIA is reluctant to handover three of its officers to the court.

He directed the anti-terrorism court to send the case proceeding to Supreme Court and Sindh High Court on daily basis.

DG FIA Shahid Hayat told the court that recording was captured on 19 CDs but none of them shows Shahrukh departing from the Karachi airport.

The bench observed that PIA and FIA officers were not cooperating with each other rather passing the buck.
