Federal Law Minister Farooq H.Naek said on Friday that the governor’s rule in Balochistan would be lifted before March 14.

“The governor rule was imposed for two months and now it’s a legal and constitutional obligation to lift it in order to pave the way for a civilian caretaker setup,” Naek told reporters in Islamabad.

The governor rule was imposed in Balochistan following the killings of at least 100 people in three bomb blasts in Quetta city last month, targeting shia Hazara community.

Terror haunted the Hazara people again when a powerful blast ripped through their town, claiming more than 90 lives last week.

Amid fury and anguish in their four-day long protests, the Hazara people refused to bury the victims, prompting the federal government to announce a ‘targeted operation’ in Quetta and the Supreme Court to take a suo moto notice of the worst sectarian attack.

Naek, while replying a question today, ruled out the notion that any proposal has been under consideration to extend the governor rule through the Parliament’s approval.

He said no one has been nominated as a new Leader of the House in Balochistan assembly, adding that the house would itself elect a person for the office once the civilian government is restored.
