Anti-Dengue Day would be observed in the province on February 24 to create awareness against dengue because of the change in weather, Special Assistant to Chief Minster on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique said on Thursday.
He said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had personally ordered the arrangements for the day. Rafique was presiding over a meeting to review the steps and readiness of the government departments for the eradication of dengue. MPAs, Additional Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, Health Secretary Arif Nadeem, secretaries of other government departments, officers of police, special branch and Cantonment Board attended the meeting. Chief Minister’s Dengue Research Cell In charge Dr Wasim Akram said that due to low temperature, the breading of dengue larvae had not started but if the temperature were to rise after the recent rains, the possibility of dengue larvae growing could increase. Rafique said that all departments should start their activities according to already formulated SOPs and start larvae surveillance and larvaeciding on time.
