The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected a verbal request of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Admiral (r) Fasih Bukhari for granting personal exemption in a contempt of court case against him.

A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed deferred proceedings in the contempt case against the NAB chairman until March 14 because of a change in the formation of the bench.

During the proceedings, the NAB chairman appeared in person and requested the bench to grant him exemption as he had been appearing before the court for the last three days and that he had to look after the affairs of the bureau. However, the bench rejected his plea.

The chief justice asked Bukhari’s counsel if the government had constituted a two-member commission headed by Justice (r) Nawaz Abbasi to probe the issue of NAB chief’s letter, as they had learnt it through news reports. The counsel expressed his ignorance in this regard.

However, the SC registrar said in a note that he had contacted the secretary for law and justice, who rejected the news item, saying that they did not proceed on media speculations.

The bench then issued notices to the publishers, printers, and editors of two Urdu dailies, which had published the news item.

  1. It is not his fault but part of his life as army officer who always consider them holy bulls of Pakistan who should be personally exempted by all kinds of crimes and sins. They are used to of confessions only which they commonly do in their last ages or after retirement so he still has few years to confess what he he had done wrong while he was in office.

  2. Supreme Court is bent upon defaming every respectable man in this country. This dictatorship is meant for raising the cost of Justice. Today Bench are bar are making millions a day.
