Reinstate Balochistan Govt, governor rule could derail democracy

Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naek has warned that democratic process could be affected if governor rule is not lifted from Balochistan.

Talking to media here at the Parliament House, the law minister said that demand for handing of Quetta to army has come from the politicians. He emphasized that army should be kept away from the issues pertaining to law and order in Quetta and the politicians should put their heads together to fill security lacunas left unattended for decades.

He said that any decision about Balochistan would be taken in line with the aspirations of the people and for sustenance of democracy. He favored the restoration of provincial government in Balochistan saying if not done so, democratic process would be in danger. Naek said that the government never followed the policy of confrontation with the judiciary.

To a question, the minister replied that the government would not hesitate to call a joint sitting of the parliament on Balochistan if need be. He said that any longevity in the tenure of the caretaker government would be against the national interest.
