In a bid to play its role in what its leaders call return of peace and an end to violence, the Jamiat Ul Ulema Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) on Wednesday announced an All Parties Conference (APC) at Islamabad on February 28.
According to JUI-F spokesman Abdul Jalil Jan, a three-member team headed by the party’s Secretary General Abdul Ghafoor Haideri initiated the meeting with leaders of other political forces. He further said that so far leaders of Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakhtoonkhwa Milli Awami (PMA) had assured participation in the APC.
Jalil Jan said that Ghafoor Haideri was also in favor of holding meetings with leaders of other parties, including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League factions and others.
Meanwhile, a Jirga headed by Maulana Fazalur Rahman will be held today (Thursday) with the agenda to evolve a strategy for the APC. The jirga will comprise of JUI-F stalwarts and affiliated Ulema from all tribal agencies and regions.
On the other hand, Aurakzai Agency member of national assembly and parliamentary leader Mian Muneer Aurakzai announced his intentions to join JUI-F.
Mian Muneer Aurakzai recently developed an alliance with Maulana Fazalur Rahman. Both of them traveled to Qatar a few days ago.
Mian Muneer Aurakzai runs a well-established business in Qatar.
