Afridi, Malik back in T20, ODI teams

The Pakistan Cricket Board has on Wednesday brought in Shahid Afridi in the T20 and ODI teams to ply against South Africa.

The teams also includes Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal and Wahab Riaz.

Both the allrounders Afridi and Malik played in December in the drawn Twenty20 series against India but were ignored for the one-day series.

However, the selectors have turned back to the old guns after Pakistan’s batsmen struggled in the ongoing test series against the Proteas. Pakistan trails 2-0 in the three-test series with the last test beginning at Centurion from Friday.

Middle-order batsman Umar Akmal, who missed out on the test team, also returns to give the struggling lineup some impetus.

The players left out from the ODI squad that went to India were Anwar Ali, Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail and Zulfiqar Babar. And Sohail Tanvir, who was part of the team that had travelled to India, has been replaced by Wahab.

The Pakistan team will play two T20 matches on March 1 at Kingsmead, Durban and March 3 at SuperSport Park, Centurion and five ODIs series (March 10 at Chevrolet Park, Bloemfontein, March 15 at SuperSport Park, Centurion, March 17 at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, March 21 at Kingsmead, Durban, March 24 at WillowmoorePark, Benoni).
