As many as 498 posts of teaching and non-teaching staff in primary, middle, elementary and high schools in Rawalpindi district were lying vacant.
On the other hand, a ban had been imposed on new recruitment until the next government was elected but around 500 vacant posts were badly affecting educational activities in schools and was putting the future of students at stake.
The vacant posts in schools include 285 that of primary teachers course (PTC), 84 elementary school teachers, 25 senior vernaculars, 10 mathematic teachers, 23 EST general, 21 Arabic teachers, 7 physical education tutors, one each of office assistant and senior clerk and five junior clerks.
Talking to INP, residents of different localities urged the concerned authorities to appoint qualified teachers in schools. They said that they could not afford the high fees of private schools for their children.
