The Supreme Court has ordered Islamabad Police Inspector General Bin Yameen to personally investigate the case of brutal killing and subsequent burning of the body of an 11-year-old girl. A three-member SC bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard the suo motu case on Tuesday. The chief justice said the police would have resolved the matter by now had the daughter of a rich man been killed. He urged the police to treat everyone equally. Justice Chaudhry said the police had not taken any action even after six days of the incident. At this, the IG said it took two to three days to obtain the record of the case. “Investigation would be conducted on merit,” he added. Justice Gulzar noted that the police were deliberately hindering the investigation process. Bin Yameen further told the court that an initial report had been registered in Bhara Kahu Police Station, and the accused was confined to his home on February 15. He said a woman, Mehak, involved in the case was on bail-before-arrest, while the others were on physical remand. The IG requested until March 1 to investigate the matter. However, the court ordered him to arrest the criminals by March 4.
