IGP inaugurates polio campaign in Islamabad

Islamabad Police Inspector General Bani Amin Khan inaugurated a polio campaign on Monday which would continue until the February 21, 2013.

Speaking on the occasion, Bani Amin Khan said that Islamabad Police had joined hands with the Directorate of Health Services and CDA for the eradication of polio.  He said that special security arrangements had been made for polio teams, so that they could administer polio drops without any fear.

CDA DHS Health Director said, “By the grace of Almighty Allah, the federal capital has been a polio-free city since 2008 as no polio case has been detected during the period due to enhanced vigilance of the civic agency”.

At the occasion, the Health Director apprised that the polio campaign in 9 high risk zones would be covered.

“The focus would be on katchi abadis, slums, complete rural belt and its adjacent areas,” he added.

“Around 174 teams would be mobilised to vaccinate children. 9 zonal supervisors and 42 area incharges would supervise the campaign. To facilitate the residents of campaign areas, 40 fixed centers have been established at different easily accessible locations. To vaccinate the children who were traveling with parents, 14 transit points have been set up at different entry and exit points of Islamabad. A total of 174 teams have been appointed who will every house to vaccinate the targeted 69,562 children within the municipal limits of Islamabad,” he said.

He said that CDA was providing logistic support during the campaign and had established an operational room to intensify the monitoring arrangements of the polio campaign.

“The coverage of the CDA in the previous campaign has been 97 percent as verified by WHO’s independent monitors. The performance of CDA is proved by the fact that every child is administered with the polio drops,” he said.

Director Heath services commended the cooperation and efforts of Islamabad Police and Islamabad Traffic Police for their cooperation and contribution in the eradication of polio from Islamabad. He also thanked the representative of electronic and print media for creating awareness regarding the polio campaign.
