Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) senior central leader and Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said Shahbaz Sharif should get a survey done to compare development works undertaken in Punjab during five years of PML-N’s tenure in government with those completed under Elahi’s own reign as chief minister (CM).
Elahi said Sharif should not deceive the people of the province on the basis of a fraudulent survey, and said the ‘Jangla Bus’ (referring to Bus Rapid Transit System) is one of the biggest scandals not only in Pakistan, but the whole of Asia, because it lacked transparency. He went on to say the Transparency International should take notice of the project and unveil the corruption that took place during implementation.
Addressing a huge gathering at Talagang on Sunday, Elahi said he had given development projects worth Rs 22 billion to Chakwal and Talagang but the Punjab “Khadam-e-A’ala” took away machinery from the established Talagang Hospital.
“Our prosperous Punjab has been turned into ‘kangla’ by the inefficient CM and people would show him the door in the upcoming elections,” claimed Elahi.
The deputy PM stated he had completed record development works in the whole of Punjab including southern regions without any discrimination. “We did not utilise funds of one area on another but ‘Khadam-e-A’ala’ has dumped funds of other districts towards the ‘Jangla Bus Service’,” he claimed.
Elahi alleged that owing to flop schemes such as the ‘Jangla Bus Service’, Laptop scheme and Ashiana Scheme, Punjab’s exchequer had taken a massive hit, putting it in a position where there is not even enough money to pay salaries to government employees.
He further said that PML-N had not held local bodies’ elections in the past five years and had in fact abolished the local government system established during his tenure.
PML-Q leader Hafiz Ammar Yassir speaking on the occasion said Shahbaz Sharif was “Zaalim-e-A’ala” who had closed Talagang Hospital and got a 27-kilometer long road constructed in Lahore thereby depriving the poor people of this area from health facilities.
