The by-polling process in constituencies PS-73 (Jamshoro-Dadu) and PS-84 (Thatta) of the Sindh Assembly started with a low turn-out on Monday.
According to the regional Election Commissioner (EC) Attaur Rehman, 155,509 voters were registered in PS-73 and 151,542 in PS-84 respectively.
In both the constituencies, the candidates of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), including former provincial minister Murad Ali Shah and former Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Sadiq Memon, were facing independent candidates as the other mainstream parties including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) have opted out of the contest.
In PS-73, where 162 polling stations and 416 booths had been set up, Murad Shah was competing against at least two potential candidates, including Sindh United Party’s Roshan Ali Buriro and an independent candidate Raees Habibullah Rind.
A total of 21 nomination papers were filed from the constituency, the regional EC informed.
