Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said Pakistan wants improved ties with all its neighbours, including India and Afghanistan to keep the region stable and peaceful.
In an interview with a private television channel, the prime minister said the international community had realised that Pakistan was a responsible nuclear power, adding that it was not in the interest of the world that tension continued in the region.
He said Pakistan and India were making efforts to normalise bilateral relations but some incidents happened affecting the ties.
Ashraf said Kashmir was the core issue which was the cause of tense relations with India and Pakistan’s viewpoint was that the dispute should be resolved according to the aspirations of Kashmiri people and the UN Security Council resolutions.
About ties with Afghanistan‚ the prime minister said Pakistan was a unique example as it took care of so many Afghan refugees on humanitarian basis when the economic conditions were not so good.
Ashraf said Pakistan sacrificed a lot in the war against terrorism, adding that it was Pakistan’s own war as its cities‚ towns‚ mosques and public places had been targeted.
He said the international community with its collective wisdom wanted to resolve the problem of terrorism through negotiations.
The prime minister said it was heartening that democratically elected government was going to complete its five-year tenure which had strengthened democracy.
