Pakistani Taliban militant commander Tariq Afridi from Dara Adam Khel, who had been wounded a couple of months ago, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday and was buried in Tirah Valley, Pakistan Today has learnt. Tribesmen from the area said the deceased’s family had received confirmation of Afridi’s death. Close relatives of the commander have been receiving guests in their Hujra, where people are showing up to condole his death. Afridi had been trying to slip into urban centres for treatment but was unable to do so because security forces were on high alert. Sources said Afridi received treatment from medical technicians and other health workers in Tirah Valley. Afridi belonged to an influential family from Dara Adam Khel and was regarded amongst the most powerful militant commanders in the tribal regions. He was involved in the kidnapping and killing of a Polish engineer and several other known figures. However, he was engaged in disputes with the chief of banned outfit Lashkar Islam Mangal Bagh from Khyber Agency and several other individuals within the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
