In line with the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has ordered that intra-party elections be held at the federal and provincial levels before February 28.
PML-Q Information Secretary Senator Kamil Ali Agha has been nominated chief election commissioner and elections to the post of party president, secretary general and other central offices will be held by February 28.
Sources said Shujaat and Mushahid Hussain Sayed are the only candidates for the post of president and secretary general and will certainly be elected for the offices respectively.
A meeting of the Central General Council of the PML-Q will be convened in Islamabad for the election of central office bearers. Before that elections will be held in Punjab, Sind, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The sources said Pervez Elahi will be re-elected party president in Punjab and Chaudhry Zaheeruddin secretary general.
After the death of Jam Mohammad Yusuf and Ghaus Bakhsh Mehr’s joining the PML-Functional, the party is looking for new provincial candidates in Balochistan and Sind while Syed Qasim Shah is expected to be made party president in KP.
The ECP has made it clear that only those parties would be allowed to contest elections which have held intra-party elections.
