The Punjab Health Department on Saturday fired 120 more protesting doctors for being absent from their duties over the last one-and-a-half year.

According to Punjab Health Department, the number of sacked doctors has risen to 265.

The Punjab Health Department said that the doctors were repeatedly warned and asked to resume their duties but they did not comply.

Reports said that the sacked doctors had no association with the protesting doctors of YDA.

In another report, the Young Doctors Association (YDA) submitted a petition against the National Assembly lawmaker and Punjab Health Department Secretary Salman Rafiq in Lahore Session Court to launch a First Information Report (FIR) against the lawmaker.

The applicants accused Salman Rafiq of urging policemen to torture the young doctors who were staging a peaceful protest over the Punjab government’s failure to approve the demands of the doctors.

The police had launched a crackdown on the camp of protesting doctors and baton-charged the protestors when they tried to block the track of the bus project on Kashmir road.

Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey along with the diplomats and officials of over 60 countries were present in the city to witness the inauguration of Pakistan’s first metro bus project.

The police also arrested dozens of doctors during the crackdown.
